For Bollywood, 2023 was the best year for Bollywood actors with the industry getting the most number of all-time blockbusters. With Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol re-emerging with Pathaan, Jawan, Dunki, and Gadar 2, the distributors and exhibitors had the time of their lives – or at least the best time in the post-pandemic era. Among others, Ranbir Kapoor delivered a huge blockbuster in Animal whilst Ranveer Singh found decent appreciation in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

Below is the list of the best Bollywood actors of 2023, ranked in reverse order:

10. Babil Khan & Amrith Jayan (Friday Night Plan)

In Vatsal Neelakantan’s charming sibling film, Babil Khan and Amrith Jayan formed a hilarious duo. Coupled with the film’s easy high-school comedy vibe, the actors also seemed to have had a lot of fun.

9. Adarsh Gourav (Kho Gaye Hum Kahan)

Among the frontrunners in Bollywood’s newest lot, Adarsh Gourav showcased a brand new facet in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. Essaying the part of a fitness trainer dabbling with romantic, familial, and monetary issues of varying degrees, the actor made Neil vulnerable and all-heart.

8. Manoj Bajpayee (Gulmohar)

The seasoned actor had a fantastic year with three solid performances in films of varying qualities. In Rahul V. Chittella’s Gulmohar, Bajpayee delivered yet another well-rounded act – displaying his emotional flexibility to a T, thereby standing out amid a talented ensemble cast.

7. Shah Rukh Khan (Jawan)

The superstar actor has seen and done it all. Yet, Atlee’s Jawan is the pick of the lot if you evaluate the way he flexed his acting muscles. Shah Rukh Khan seemed to be enjoying every second of his time on screen. Result? A fun actioner with a definite Tamil flavor that would open a box of ideas to those who have been on a Bollywood-only diet.

6. Vicky Kaushal (Zara Hatke Zara Bachke)

Vicky Kaushal is not new to housing mishaps. In what must be his breakthrough into the realm of light-hearted cinema, Kaushal delivered a genuinely fun rom-com in Love Per Square Foot (2018). Zara Hatke Zara Bachke makes us root every minute for Kapil (Kaushal). His fire-and-ice chemistry with Somya (essayed by Sara Ali Khan) makes us deeply invested in their woes.

5. Pankaj Tripathi (OMG 2)

In OMG 2, Pankaj Tripathi who is at the fulcrum of the plot is stellar as the part fits him like a glove. The actor’s adept body language and the casual shiver in the voice match steps with his notable proficiency in Hindi – a major mandate to have pulled off the part.

4. Manoj Bajpayee (Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai)

In Apoorv Singh Karki’s courtroom drama, Manoj Bajpayee’s high-voltage performance makes you observe him with wide eyes and, perhaps, an open mouth. High on monologues and thunderous lines to be delivered, the actor’s studied approach makes the explosive act appear extremely easy on the eyes as well as the ears.

3. Jaideep Ahlawat (Three of Us)

Dependable as always, Jaideep Ahlawat adds another superb turn to his filmography with Avinash Arun’s balmy Three of Us. As Pradeep, the actor’s understated expressions and soft-spoken demeanor add a unique sheen to a film that’s easily the year’s best.

2. Kapil Sharma (Zwigato)

In Nandita Das’s film, Kapil Sharma was wonderfully at home as the hard-working delivery person, Manas. The actor’s transformation as a quiet, blue-collar worker was a pleasant surprise whereas his chemistry with Shahana Goswami made the enterprise all the more believable.

1. Vikrant Massey (12th Fail)

In Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s sleeper hit, Vikrant Massey made a heartrending underdog saga come beautifully alive. Emotional by design, 12th Fail gives him a wholesome opportunity to display his craft and the actor delivers big-time. The climactic stretch, in particular, hits so hard that it’s impossible to not sob for victory.

Special Mentions: Anirban Bhattacharya (Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway), Manoj Bajpayee (Joram), Ali Fazal (Khufiya), Gulshan Devaiah (8 A.M. Metro), Jaideep Ahlawat (Jaane Jaan) and Abhishek Chauhan (Mast Mein Rehne Ka)
