ishaan vishal The 10 Best Bollywood Actors of 2025

The film season of 2025 is officially over, and the list season has begun. As I sat down to compile the list of the 10 best Bollywood actors of 2025, I realised how peculiar a year it has been for leading men in Hindi cinema. Speaking of the “popular” names who do not make it to my list, it feels unfair to take a monumental artist like Vicky Kaushal and waste his skills in a loud, jingoistic fare like Chhaava.

Then there is Dhanush, who was outstanding in Tere Ishk Mein, a film that could have made more effort to render his character marginally real. While these men were still good at what they were signed up for, the usually dependable Aamir Khan proved to be a disappointment in Sitaare Zameen Par. Interestingly, around this time last year, I was manifesting him, a personal favourite, to top this very list. Alas, that was not to be.

So, here goes my list of the 10 best Bollywood actors of 2025, ranked in reverse order of preference.

10. Aaishvary Thackeray (Nishaanchi)

In his debut outing, Nishaanchi, Aaishvary Thackeray is unmistakably good in twin roles that give him ample room to perform. Even when the film slips into indulgence, the actor stays grounded, to the point where it is hard to imagine him as anything but a natural inhabitant of the film’s universe.

9. Ahaan Panday (Saiyaara)

An intense romantic drama with all its ingredients in measured proportion, Saiyaara proves to be a marquee debut for Ahaan Panday. His portrayal of a temperamental musician and passionate lover feels sincere and controlled. In a story that could have tipped into theatrical excess, his fresh approach fits neatly within a mainstream commercial framework.

8. Manoj Bajpayee (Jugnuma)

Casting Manoj Bajpayee as Dev in Jugnuma already feels like half the battle won. He approaches the role with a careful balance of tenderness and simmering anger. As both householder and employer, Bajpayee presents dual facets of the character, neither entirely likable nor dismissible, leaving behind a lingering moral unease.

7. Siddhant Chaturvedi (Dhadak 2)

In Dhadak 2, Siddhant Chaturvedi delivers his most intense performance to date, in a role that demands internalisation before expression. In the final sequence, his simmering rage gives the part undeniable emotional and physical weight. While slightly uneven in places, the performance reflects clear growth and signals a decisive step forward in his acting trajectory.

6. Mohit Agarwal (Agra)

Mohit Agarwal holds Agra together with a performance rooted in restraint rather than emphasis. By trusting silence, body language, and observation, he allows the character to surface gradually, making the discomfort unforced. The actor’s position in the 10 Best Bollywood Actors of 2025 is, therefore, richly deserved.

5. Ranveer Singh (Dhurandhar)

Ranveer Singh’s commitment to an arduous film like Dhurandhar stands as a testament to his craft, despite the improbably excessive hair on his head and face. With minimal dialogue to rely on, Hamza reveals explosive ideas and buried truths only when provoked. The film’s reliance on silence, strategy, and mind games contrasts sharply with the flamboyance usually associated with Ranveer, cementing this as one of his finest performances and placing him high on the 10 Best Bollywood Actors of 2025 list.

4. Abhishek Banerjee (Stolen)

Abhishek Banerjee understands Stolen as a film of observation rather than display and calibrates his performance accordingly. He works largely through reaction shots and withheld emotion, letting the frame and the moment shape the character. The result supports the film’s moral inquiry without ever announcing itself.

3. Vishal Jethwa (Homebound)

Despite the world Chandan belongs to, there is a glint of innocence in his eyes, part hope, part belief that his efforts might change his family’s circumstances. Jethwa gives the character love first, extends it outward, and fully inhabits him. The effect is constant, and my affection for the performance only deepened with each passing minute.

2. Adarsh Gourav (Superboys of Malegaon)

Adarsh Gourav’s Nasir is a force of nature in Reema Kagti’s film. The brawls, compromises, emotional wreckage, reconciliations, and restless ambition feel operatic, almost like something from an eighties or nineties matinee idol, but grounded in a far more lived-in reality. Gourav’s performance is so complete that it erases memories of his earlier urban roles.

1. Ishaan Khatter (Homebound)

For all the discourse around nepotism, Ishaan Khatter’s hair-raising performance arrives without an ounce of inhibition, and he tops the list of the 10 Best Bollywood Actors of 2025. I found myself searching for a single standout moment, sometimes it is a glance, elsewhere a monologue, but none exists in isolation. Homebound is not that kind of a film, and Khatter’s approach does not feel like he was seeking applause. If this audacity comes from his lineage, I would say I like it very much.

Special Mentions: Manoj Bajpayee (Inspector Zende), Divyenndu (Saali Mohabbat), Emraan Hashmi (Haq), Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Raat Akeli Hai – The Bansal Murders)
