With each passing year, compiling the list of the best Bollywood actresses of 2025 becomes tougher. Why? Because the industry, with its newfound obsession for a certain brand of “pan-India” cinema, seems to take more and more pride in sidelining its female leads. Moreover, the more talented leading ladies have cut down on work. And suddenly, there’s a surge of mediocre talents who will take another decade to hone their skills to watchable proportions. The result? There are very few ‘celebrity’ actresses in a year who have had so many big-ticket films featuring them.
So, here goes Filmy Sasi’s list of the 10 best Bollywood actresses of 2025, ranked in reverse order of preference:
10. Kriti Sanon (Tere Ishk Mein)
In Aanand L. Rai’s film, Kriti Sanon fabulously pulls off Mukti’s madness, despite never being a very likable romance genre heroine. Among other things, the film practically screams for a desi Kill Bill starring her, with more mind games and psychological play. Kriti’s commitment here reflects an actor increasingly comfortable taking risks.
9. Triptii Dimri (Dhadak 2)
As Vidhi, Triptii Dimri, who nearly becomes the conscience of Dhadak 2, shines in several key sequences. Vidhi’s naivete and sunshine-like presence contrast sharply with Neelesh’s (Siddhant Chaturvedi) rough realities. Triptii lends the film its emotional softness, besides personifying a section of the audience that does not believe such things happen in India.

8. Aneet Padda (Saiyaara)
In Saiyaara, Aneet Padda never betrays a hint of inexperience. She displays a strong grasp of the craft, encompassing language, expressions, rhythm, and an organic shiver in her voice when the moment calls for it. There is an ease to her performance that feels instinctive rather than rehearsed. Padda, among many other merits, is an actor who can convey a lot without speaking.
7. Radhika Apte (Saali Mohabbat)
So, I watched three Radhika Apte films in December 2026. Actually, four if I count Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi to commemorate her 20th anniversary in films. Among the new ones, I liked two and disliked one (you can guess which is which), and it is Tisca Chopra’s directorial debut that fully utilises her skill set. The actor’s fluid physicality and affecting reflexes are among the film’s brightest spots.
6. Priyanka Bose (Agra)
At the sixth spot among the best Bollywood actresses of 2025 is Priyanka Bose. In Kanu Behl’s controversial film, she delivers a knockout performance that is defined by transactional grit. Essaying the part of Priti, the actress navigates her character’s physical disability and social marginalisation not as a victim but as a tactician seeking space in a crowded house. Bose utilises a sharp, unsentimental gaze to reclaim agency, providing a contrast to Guru’s (Mohit Agarwal) delusions.
5. Sadia Khateeb (The Diplomat)
Sadia Khateeb holds her own in The Diplomat in a part that demands she cry, plead, and stay exhausted throughout. While we fear the weight of the real-life story and the hardened life her character sees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would make her stony and unemotional, Sadia’s interpretation is of the harrowing episode is unmistakably moving.
4. Saba Azad (Songs of Paradise)
In a story based on the legendary songstress Raj Begum, Saba Azad portrays Zeba. She is a young woman in 1950s Kashmir who pursues music despite rigid social constraints. Azad’s performance tracks a naive girl’s transition from a domestic life to becoming the first female singer at Radio Kashmir, a path paved by her marriage to a progressive poet. She avoids overt theatrics, focusing on the character’s internal resolve as she negotiates the shift from traditional folk circles to a national broadcast stage.

3. Sonal Madhushankar (Humans in The Loop)
In Humans in the Loop, Sonal Madhushankar portrays Nehma, an Adivasi woman employed as a data labeler for an AI firm. Her performance highlights the tension between her indigenous identity and the sterile requirements of machine learning as she classifies data to support her children. With quiet authority, Sonal captures Nehma’s innate understanding of the soil that nurtured her. By doing so, she brings her own lived reality to challenge the digital biases of the technology she is helping to build.
2. Sanya Malhotra (Mrs)
In Arati Kadav’s film, through Sanya, we see a passionate dancer whose aspirations are stifled by the domestic drudgery of an arranged marriage. What earns her a top spot in the list of the 10 best Bollywood actresses of 2025 is a performance that wonderfully tracks the slow erosion of identity. In a story that resonates with individuals across South Asia, Malhotra captures Richa’s transition from a hopeful bride to a woman pushed to a breaking point, eventually reclaiming her agency by rejecting the culture of systemic neglect.
1. Yami Gautam Dhar (Haq)
We already know how capable a performer Yami is, but it’s rare for a role this well-written and authentic to find an actor so perfectly suited to it. To the actress’s credit, she fills the screen with honesty and sensitivity. While the climactic speech is something we expect her to deliver, it’s in the smaller moments that she truly soars — the spats with Abbas, the shopping trip with Saira, and the quiet instances where she interprets the Quran for the ignorant or indifferent. Yami is magnificent throughout, delivering what is easily her career-best performance, which places her at the number one spot in my list of the best Bollywood actresses of 2025.
Special Mentions: Genelia Deshmukh (Sitaare Zameen Par), Sadhana Singh (Kaisi Ye Paheli)
